Who We Are

We currently employ over 160 team players throughout our 6 Divisions.
We operate from three manufacturing facilities on the O’Meara Industrial Estate with the Sales and Customs office in Port of Spain

1970

Nicholas Costa designs and builds the first insulated refrigerated truck body for a local ice cream manufacturer.

1972

Mechanical Fabricators is established by Nicholas Costa in leased premises at 92 Queen Street, Port of Spain. Based on initial success with truck bodies, the Company quickly grew and started manufacturing walk-in freezers and cold storage warehouses using similar production techniques.

1974

Company name changed to Mecalfab Ltd. and formally organised.

1978

Land leased from eTeck in the O’Meara Industrial estate and factory buildings constructed. An automated machine to continuously laminate ISOWALL brand structural insulated panels is commissioned. ISOWALL brand walk-ins and warehouses launched throughout CARICOM markets.

1979

Styrotex Caribbean Ltd. purchased from ANSA and we begin manufacturing Styrotex brand products including coolers and roof insulation.

1984

Constructed large cold storage facility for PIPASA in San Jose, Costa Rica.

1985

Commenced several projects in South Florida including Jetro’s Cash and Carry, Larry Kline Meats, Miami Meat Purveyors and Dutch Packing.

1986

Purchased land at 92 Queen Street and constructed Mecalfab House corporate headquarters of 20,000 SF on 5 floors.

1987
  • Completed construction of airline flight catering kitchen in St. Maarten.   
  • Facility has since survived numerous hurricanes.
  • Won Prime Minister’s Export Award.
1988

50,000 SF public cold storage facility completed for Harbour Cold Stores in Kingston, Jamaica.

1989

FREEZ-LOK factory commissioned to manufacture “cam-loc” type panels for export.

1990

Began utilising skills and techniques gained over prior 20 years by fabricating specialist items like logging cabins, offshore living accommodation modules etc.

1993

VIKING range of very heavy duty truck bodies launched.   Also introduced, armored vehicles, mobile offices, blood banks, libraries, fast food trailers etc..

1995

Completed two specialist living quarters offshore modules for BP Amoco Oil Company.

2000

Completed constructed of pre-engineered flight catering facility for Goddards in Bonaire.

2002

Won Prime Minister’s Export Award for the 2nd time.

2004

Introduced pre-engineered building systems for the rapid construction of low cost housing, site offices, classrooms, accommodation etc.

2005

Awarded representation for Kysor Warren supermarket equipment which now allows us to offer “one-stop-shop” for fitting out of food retail facilities.

2006

Acquired the local Distributor of L’Oreal Professional and Pevonia beauty products and formed Salon Essentials Division.

2007

Opened a 3rd manufacturing facility in O’Meara which is responsible for truck body fabrication.

Won Prime Minister’s Export Award for the 3rd time.

2008

Design Supply and Installation of all refrigeration and display equipment and shelving for S S Persad’s Supermarket, Princes Town.

Awarded distribution of Redken Professional products by L’Oreal.

2010
  • Awarded Agency for Kingspan Group UK range of architectural and controlled environment products for entire Caribbean region.

  • Completed design and build of 20,000 SF Seafood processing facility, Trinidad.

  • Completed design and build of Campus buildings for UTT Corinth and Valsayn.

2012

Completed insulated roof panel project for Nestle Trinidad using Factory Mutual (FM) approved Kingspan roof panel as specified by Nestle Switzerland for superior fire resistance.

2014

Awarded Government contract to design and build the new NALIS Library complex in Couva, Trinidad.

2015

Completed major cold storage distribution facility for Chef Foods Manufacturing, Barbados.

2016

Major Kingspan architectural Cladding project undertaken for Tobago House of Assembly Headquarters, Shirvan Road, Tobago.

2017
  • Major Kingspan architectural Cladding project undertaken for Republic Bank Data Center, Trincity, Trinidad.
  • L’Oreal USA awards the Salon Essentials Division distribution of L’Oreal’s Consumer Products Division brands and Active Cosmetic Division brands.
2018

Completed major Kingspan cladding and SAS glazing project for Vamed GmbH, Austria for the new Point Fortin General Hospital, Trinidad.

2019
  • Awarded multiple contracts to manufacture Styrotex Geofoam blocks for land fill for the new extension of the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway.
  • Design Supply and Installation of all refrigeration and display equipment for S S Persad’s Supermarket, Mayaro.
  • Awarded distribution of Mizani Professional products by L’Oreal.
2020
  • Trincity Village Centre Mall major Kingspan architectural cladding and glazing contract completed within 20 months.   This state of the art retail complex is destined to win awards.

  • Completed major Cold Storage distribution warehouse project for Agostini’s Ltd., Trinidad.

  • Completed major Cold Storage distribution warehouse project for Hadco Creamery, Trinidad.

2021
  • Completed major Contract for New Santa Rosa Foods Cold storage warehouse facility, Arima, Trinidad.

  • Completed Contract for New Chef Foods Manufacturing Cold storage, meat processing and ice cream plant in Barbados. 

  • Awarded contract to expand cold storage warehousing for Massy Stores, St. Lucia.

  • Install first Solar PV system 8kW in Trinidad.

2022
  • Awarded contract to expand cold storage warehousing facilities at Hanschell-Innis, Barbados.
  • Commenced manufacturing Geofoam blocks for Diego Martin Highway Overpass.
